12 year old female Shihtzu, Weighs 13lbs.
Gerty came to us from Tennessee shelter. She was found as a stray. She had severe dry eyes that has left one eye totally blind and the right eye with vision loss. She also is hard of hearing. She is such a sweet girl and just wants to be loved. She is learning to be a dog. The first three days she laid in a bed and didn’t want to get up. But on the morning of the 4th days she decided to live. Since then she has made progress. She loves to play out in the yard, and now is playing with toys. She does startle easily due to hard of heard but no aggression at all. She needs a retirement home to live out her life.
11-2-18 Update Gerty’s surgeries went well. She had two fatty tumors removed (benign), a dental and several little moles removed. Her blood work was perfect. She is doing great. She is a little old lady that is learning to be a dog. She is sweet and gentle. She likes other dogs, is learning to play with toys. She has vision loss in left eye but can see some out of right eye. Approximately $35 a month for eye drops. She will be on eye drops twice a day for the rest of her life. Her coat is growing back nicely from flea infestation. Sweet Gerty needs a loving home to be spoiled the rest of her life. She loves to be outside in the sunshine.
UPDATE: 11-14-18 Gerty continues to improve. She loves to go outside. She is fine being an only dog but does get along with other dogs. She likes to sit in your lap and take long naps.
